It's interesting to see a photo of Thomas Edison looking so young. Normally the only pictures we see of him are when he is an old, somewhat overweight man with white hair, but he actually invented the phonograph when he was just 30 years old.
Another thing that strikes me as remarkable is just how clear and crisp this photo is (lots of older portraits are blurry). I did some googling and found out that this picture was taken in 1877 by Levin Corbin Handy, an experienced portrait photographer of the day. Of course, back then it took much longer to take photos than it does today. I wonder how long he had to sit still for it to be taken?
