This is an official photo of Haile Selassie I, of Ethiopia, who was in power for 43 years. He was Emperor from 1930 to 1974. This black and white image shows a very proud, calm and confident man. The slightly blurred background puts the focus squarely on Mr. Selassie. There is good contrast in this photo, especially between Mr. Selassie's face, which seems to bloom from his high neck shirt. Bloggers who focus on international leadership, World War II or family dynasties will find this picture useful.
During his years of leadership, Selassie had both supporters and detractors, but he generally commanded respect. His political activism led to Ethiopia becoming a charter member of the United Nations.
This appears to be a very dignified man in Ethiopia. With the current President, I think this picture will be more interesting to people. Hopefully, people will not ignore this part of the world as much and will study their history. After looking at the history of African countries like Ethiopia, you will see that they are a diverse and complex people that are very talented and deserving of a good life. However, many of them don’t have the same luxuries and benefits that us Americans have. This gentleman looks like one of the elected officials of the country and looks to be in the upper class of the society. Perhaps he’s one of the people there pushing for change to help the country treat its citizens better and have more opportunities for them.
