This is a photo of David Herold immediately after his arrest in 1865. Herold conspired with John Wilkes Booth in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, by assisting Booth in his escape. This black and white image was taken at the Washington Navy Yard immediately after Herold's arrest. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and this photo definitely shows a man who realizes his life is over. Look at the expression on his face! This photo would be a great addition to any blog about Abraham Lincoln, historical assassinations or the Civil War era. All you need to do to make it more powerful is a little bit of cropping. Herold was one of four co-conspirators who ended up hanged for Lincoln's assassination. He was only 23 at the time.
